Ahead of Colombia’s 2nd round election run-off on 17th June, Tariq spoke with Forrest Hylton, who teaches at the National University of Colombia in Medellin and is the author of ‘Evil Hour in Colombia’.

Centrist candidates failed to get past the first round, so there’s a very clear ideological choice for voters this year. If voters elect for hard right Ivan Duque, it could risk damaging the peace process with the FARC, while a vote for former guerrilla Gustavo Petro will certainly help to unify warring factions in Colombia.
